Letter: Constituent gets regrets only from Rep. Jason Chaffetz

I recently wrote to my 3rd District representative, Jason Chaffetz. I expressed deep concern over the government shutdown (which has negatively affected my finances as many of my clients are government employees who have been furloughed).

I begged him to take up his fight with Democrats in another way, at another time, and not to jeopardize the world's fiscal stability in the process. As my representative, he should be eager to get feedback from constituents at this most perilous of times, right? Wrong. The following response was emailed to me:

"Thank you for contacting me. Due to the government-wide shutdown as a result of a lapse in appropriations, my office is closed and I am unable to respond to email or voice messages. Your message is important to me, and as soon as the federal government reopens, I will respond to your message. I regret any inconvenience this shutdown may cause."

I have never voted in a primary before, but you bet I will next time! And Chaffetz, watch out. My friends and neighbors are all on my side. Residents of Draper are not happy.
