Albuquerque, N.M. • Just when it seemed that Utah State was clicking on all cylinders, Jojo Natson found another one that hadn't clicked yet.
The 5-foot-8 sophomore, who had nearly fumbled a punt away early in the game, positioned himself under another. It took him seconds to get from his own 45-yard line to the end zone, and the Aggies to take a 28-point lead on his return.
It was big validation for Natson, who had yet to get in the end zone this year in any fashion. It was also the Aggies' first punt return for a touchdown since 2007, when Kevin Robinson did it against Nevada.
Aggies get freshman tight end in action
Darell Garretson was making his first career start Saturday, but he wasn't the only Aggie freshman getting on the field on offense.
Utah State put in Wyatt Houston, another true freshman, in at tight end, ending his chance at a redshirt season this year.
A season-ending injury to senior D.J. Tialavea created a need for tight end depth, and the 6-foot-5, 245-pound Houston from Oregon apparently fit the bill.
True freshman running back Kennedy Williams has also been playing snaps this season, rounding out the true freshmen who have gotten offensive snaps.
Utah State shows new helmet logo
For the first time this season, the Aggies went with pewter pants and jerseys.
But that wasn't the big news for Utah State's uniforms.
The program flashed some new helmets taking the field Saturday night: A white dome with the program's bull logo on one side. It was a new look from the program's traditional "U" on the side, and was even a surprise to the players arriving at University Stadium.
Utah State garnered a two-touchdown lead within the first seven minutes of Saturday's game, marking the fourth time the Aggies have gotten out to a hot start.
First quarter leads have been fortuitous for the Aggies. Coming into the match-up, Utah State had led after the first quarter 18 of its previous 22 games, and won each of them.
