Letter: Trib opinions, cartoons lack cleverness, objectivity

As a preface, I neither like them and I don't listen, watch, nor read content from any of Bagley's Sunday cartoon "gang of 13." However, none is a journalist, just celebrities, politicians and talking heads, so they are all entitled to their opinions.

Disturbingly, more broadly than just signifying the South, the Confederate flag contemporaneously represents racism. So, with the flag as a background, in their unimaginative and venomous ritual, Bagley and your editorial board are attempting to inculcate your readership with the notion that all 13 are racists, something that can never possibly be validated.

Nocuously, Bagley's obvious vitriol implicitly suggests that the 13 oppose the president, therefore they must be racist, which is insultingly stale and intellectually dishonest. I thought your paper professed tolerance and yet contrasting beliefs are hypocritically not tolerated.

After 10 years of subscribing, it's time to leave. Even NPR, Jon Stewart and the likes of cartoonist Walt Handelsman offer objective criticism and wit to obvious bull and obfuscation from all political sides. Your editorial presentations and contributors lack cleverness, any modicum of objectivity and often are just pathetically mean.
