Cyclist critically hurt in crash | The Salt Lake Tribune

A cyclist was critically injured after colliding with a vehicle near the mouth of Big Cottonwood Canyon.

About 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, the 66-year-old cyclist was crossing Wasatch Blvd. (3500 East) to enter the canyon when a northbound Toyota sedan struck him, said Cottonwood Heights Police Sgt. Mark Askerlund. He suffered obvious head injuries, Askerlund said, though the sergeant was not sure if he had been wearing a helmet.

The man was taken to Intermountain Medical Center in an ambulance in critical condition.

"It's hard to say whether he's going to make it or not," Askerlund said, though last he had heard the cyclist had been stabilized.

The driver of the car was not hurt. Police are still investigating the crash to determine who was at fault, including collecting witness statements.

Police have not identified the cyclist or released where he is from.
