Janise Macanas, an assistant attorney general for Utah, has been elected commissioner for the State Bar Board's 3rd District.
The veteran prosecutor will be formally sworn in on Nov. 15.
"Janise ... is an incredible public servant and this new position speaks volumes about her willingness to serve her colleagues and the legal community," said Macanas' boss, Utah Attorney General John Swallow.
Macanas, who has worked felony cases for the state more than 15 years, earned her law degree from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University, added an M.S. from Chapman University and pursued doctoral studies in Clinical Psychology at United States International University-San Diego.
She recently served as president of the Utah Minority Bar Association and currently is deputy president of Region XV of the Hispanic National Bar Association.
