Rubblebucket

Show of the week • The art-pop Brooklyn band Rubblebucket makes happy music: bouncy beats, big horns and a lead vocal from frontwoman/saxophonist Kalmia Traver that shifts from ethereal to soaring. The band, founded by Traver and boyfriend/trumpeter Alex Toth, is touring to support a just-released EP, "Save Charlie," that demonstrates fun dance grooves on three original tracks, a cover of the Doobie Brothers' "What a Fool Believes" and three remixes. The EP's pleasurable vibe was produced under trying circumstances, as Traver was diagnosed with ovarian cancer this summer and received chemotherapy treatments during writing and recording — with the last treatment happening only a week before the band began its tour.
