A LaVerkin man has been charged with murder after he allegedly beat a man to death with a tree branch.

John Stettler Stucki, 54, of LaVerkin, was charged in 5th District Court with first-degree felony murder and class C misdemeanor intoxication in connection with the beating death of 64-year-old Donald George Loomer of Hurricane.

Loomer was found beaten in a LaVerkin driveway on Oct. 8.

He died Oct. 13 at University Medical Center in Las Vegas after family members decided to take him off life support.

Police say John Stettler Stucki of LaVerkin initially told them gang members had beat the man, and he didn't know how Loomer ended up in his driveway.

He later told police he hit Loomer with a stick after Loomer hit him in the face with a coffee cup.
