The comedy equivalent of a UFO sighting — a show by comedian Dave Chappelle — is happening in Salt Lake City next week.

Concert promoters announced today (yes, today) that Chappelle will perform Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m. at Abravanel Hall, 123 W. South Temple, Salt Lake City.

Tickets go on sale starting at 3 p.m. today at ArtTix locations and ArtTix.org, and at Smith's Tix.

Chappelle is known for his sharp-edged humor, as well as iconic impersonations of such celebrities as Prince and Rick James. He's also known for his quirky behavior.

Chappelle famously walked away from his hit Comedy Central series, "Chappelle's Show," during production of its third season in 2006. He is known for making impromptu appearances, such as the time in 2009 when a rumor of Chappelle coming to a public square in Portland, Ore., started a Twitter tsunami and drew a midnight crowd of more than 1,000 people.

This year, Chappelle has returned to touring, though results have been mixed. In August, he drew standing ovations at a show in Austin, Texas, but faced such rude heckling in Hartford, Conn., that he walked off the stage, according to Entertainment Weekly.
