Residents in Sandy wanting to talk to police will have a new number to call beginning Sunday morning.
The city's public safety department will begin using the Salt Lake Dispatch Center at 5 a.m.
Sandy previously used Valley Emergency Communications Center which serves several Salt Lake County cities to handle it's emergency calls.
The switch was prompted by new state-of-the-art technology at the Salt Lake Dispatch Center, according to a news release, and is expected to produce better communication flow to police and fire units.
The change also is expected to save Sandy money, the release states.
The non-emergency number in Sandy for contacting police and fire dispatch will now be 801-799-3000. Residents with emergencies should call 911.
