Rep. Chris Stewart, R-Utah, wants to remove some of the drama from any future government shutdown by creating a mechanism for states to run national parks and get reimbursed when Congress eventually strikes a budget deal ("Utah bill would let states run fed parks during shutdown," Tribune, Oct. 23).
Instead of planning for the next government shutdown why doesn't Stewart work to see that a shutdown never happens again? Does he think that the small towns around those federal lands were the only ones hurt by the government shutdown? He should look at the whole picture.
A government shutdown affects a lot of people. He should be thinking of ways to improve our economy, not make it worse. Don't we pay him to work to make the country better for all of us? What kind of confidence are we supposed to have in our government with an attitude like his?
