Letter: Now is the time for independent candidates

If there ever was a time for independent (the state of Utah labels them "unaffiliated") candidates to run for every significant office within the state, it is the 2014 election.

Moderate Republicans and Democrats have had it with the way the few 5 to 10 percent "ideologists," the extreme side of each party, just refuse meaningful compromise. Instead they stand on their "ideals" and get nothing done. Ever tried to feed your family with ideals?

Just go pick up a petition from the lieutenant governor's office and collect either 300 signatures of registered voters in your House or Senate district or at least 5 percent of the registered voters in the district, whichever is fewer. Get some like-minded friends and volunteers, people who want genuine change, to help knock on doors and get some attention. The 60-plus percent of voters in the middle who consider themselves moderate and rational will hear you out.

If they like what they see and hear they will dump their party and vote for honest representation and not another worthless party shill. Get started now!
