Re "Argentina's woes highlight need for GMO food labeling," Forum, Oct. 29): All eyes are on Washington state as the Nov. 5 election draws near with a ballot measure asking voters to decide if the state should require GMO food to be labeled.

California 2012 voters' rejection of Proposition 37, which would have required mandatory labeling of genetically engineered food, proved the power of industry dollars is entrenched. If industry spends enough dollars and creates a clever enough marketing campaign, almost any state ballot proposition that threatens business can be killed!

Pesticide companies like Monsanto, DOW Agrisciences and Bayer CropScience poured millions of dollars into defeating Prop. 37. I wonder why?

Here's hoping Washington's ballot measure is a success. Since no one really knows the health risks of genetically modified foods, citizens should have the right to know what they are buying and consuming.
