Once again, the bye week is not going well for the BYU Cougars. BYU announced Thursday that backup linebacker Austen Jorgensen's career is over due to a knee injury and senior inside receiver and punt returner JD Falslev will miss the next 3-4 weeks after suffering a fractured hand. Jorgensen, a 6-foot-2, 232-pound linebacker from Mount Pleasant, Utah and North Sanpete High, will have season-ending surgery next week to repair cartilage damage to his knee. Jorgensen has made 47 tackles in eight games this season for 6-2 BYU. He has started in three games. Jorgensen made 108 tackles, including 55 solo stops and one sack, in 45 games in his career. Falslev, a 5-foot-8, 175-pound specialist from Smithfield, Utah and Sky View High, is one of BYU's team captains. He has caught 24 passes for 227 yards this season while playing in all eight games and starting in three. He is also BYU's primary punt returner, and has averaged 10.4 yards per return on 23 punts. He had a 71-yard return for a touchdown against Middle Tennessee State University.
