A 26-year-old man remained in critical condition Friday, the day after he was struck by a car while on his bicycle in southeast Salt Lake City.

Police said the accident occurred at 9:37 p.m. Thursday when the man, riding his bike westbound near 2700 South and 700 East, was hit by a southbound vehicle.

Salt Lake City Lt. Josh Scharman said initial witness reports indicate the cyclist crossed into an intersection against a red light. However, police will not definitively know what happened until the investigation is completed.

Police did not immediately release further information on the identity of the victim or the driver, or whether any citations had been issued.
