Utah Crowd-Funding: Letters, state by state

This week's Utah Crowd-Funding project goes coast to coast — and is completely spelled out for you.

Provo graphic designer David Lesue has created a map of the United States, in which the names of the states (or, in some cases, their two-letter postal abbreviations) have been hand-lettered to form the shape of each state. It's extraordinarly detailed and pretty cool.

His design, called Stately Type, is available on a 16-by-20-inch letterpressed map. Or it can be silk-screened on a T-shirt or tote bag.

Lesue also has a "50 Shirts/50 States" project, which puts each state on its own T-shirt.

Lesue has an ambitious plan to get his prints made and available to customers in time for the holiday season. That's why he's taken to the crowd-funding site Kickstarter.

The Kickstarter campaign for Stately Type aims to raise $15,000 by Nov. 28. So far, the campaign has made more than a third of that goal.

Benefits for backers range from a desktop wallpaper (for a $3 pledge) to a "family pack" with a print and three T-shirts (for $110).
