Questar Gas filed a request Friday for an average 30-cent hike on customers' monthly heating bills to increase the safety of the gas pipelines.
If approved by the Public Service Commission of Utah, the rate could go into effect on Dec. 1, according to a Questar statement. It would affect all of Questar's 900,000 customers (homes and buildings) in Utah.
"Abundant natural gas supplies continue to hold down the price of natural gas," Craig Wagstaff, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Questar Gas, said in a statement. "But costs associated with enhancing the safety and reliability of our high-pressure pipelines are up."
Meanwhile, Questar is still waiting on the PSC to rule on a price hike request that the company made earlier this year. That $19-million general rate increase likely will be voted on in March.
