Utah forecast: Autumn takes a cold, snowy turn

Joni Mitchell could have foreseen Utah's chilly forecast as this week begins, one where "the frost perched on the town [and] the sun turns traitor cold."

The National Weather Service, in less dulcet tones, put it differently, issuing a Winter Weather Advisory for swaths of the state stretching from the western Uinta Mountains and Wasatch Plateau into the central and southern mountains.

From Park City west to Vernal and south and west through Price, Delta, Escalante, Cedar City and St. George, forecasters warned of sub-freezing temperatures in the higher elevations and snowfall of 2-4 inches. The advisory was to expire 10 p.m. Monday.

A pocket of southeastern Utah encompassing Green River and Moab, was under a Freeze Warning into early Tuesday morning.

The Wasatch Front expected high temperatures in the upper-30s Tuesday, echoing Monday's northern Utah forecast. Overnight lows were to dip into the upper-20s.

Southern Utah looked for highs in the mid- to upper-50s, lows in the mid-30s. Tuesday was to be dry, if cold, not repeating the afternoon rain showers forecast on Monday.
