Mike Reberg is back for a third tour of duty in Salt Lake County government, this time as director of animal services.
A district office director for Rep. Jim Matheson, D-Utah, since 2003, Reberg will replace acting animal services division director Don Porter on Nov. 25.
County public works director Russ Wall, said Reberg's 26 years of management experience in the public and private sectors will be valuable in guiding a staff of 53 people who provide animal-control services in the county's unincorporated areas plus five cities.
"He'll be a collaborative partner with our contract cities and an experienced mentor to the hard-working, dedicated employees at animal services," Wall said. "He's also someone who cares deeply about animals' well-being and supports our goal of maintaining 'no-kill' status at the county animal shelter."
Reberg was an administrative assistant to then-County Commissioner Dave Watson in 1986. He returned to the county in the 1990s as assistant public works director, focusing largely on delivery of municipal services to unincorporated areas.
His private sector work often involved guiding private-development projects through local government planning processes, Wall said.
