SWAT storms Salt Lake City home after domestic violence call

A 32-year-old Salt Lake City man was arrested after a domestic violence complaint escalated to a brief SWAT standoff.

Police said they responded to a 911 call at 9:19 p.m. Saturday from a woman saying a man in her house in the 300 East block of Redondo Avenue (1975 South) was being violent, threatening her and her two young children.

Officers, advised of previous violent incidents at the same address, responded with caution. As they attempted to contact residents by telephone, lights inside the home were extinguished.

Officers set up a containment area and when repeated efforts to make contact failed, about 90 minutes later SWAT unit officers forced entry to the home. They found the woman, her children and the male suspect in a downstairs bedroom.

The man was taken into custody without further incident and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail, where he remained on Monday on suspicion of domestic violence assault, domestic violence in the presence of a child and unlawful detention.
