Police say an armed robbery of a west Salt Lake City convenience store was foiled when a clerk apparently stalled long enough for a customer to walk in and scare the suspect off.
The suspect, described as a white man in his 20s who was wearing a dark beanie cap, blue sweater and white pants with a stripe, came into the Exxon store about 8:45 p.m. Monday. Indicating that he was armed, he demanded money.
When the clerk told him the cash register was locked and he could not open it, the suspect began to climb over the counter. However, that was when a customer entered the store and the suspect fled empty-handed.
Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Salt Lake City police at 801-799-3000.
