Ogden hosted the 2013 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree Monday night during a two-hour ceremony at the downtown Junction.

The six-story Engelmann Spruce was harvested last week in Colville National Forest in northeast Washington state and after being carefully wrapped and prepared, began a 5,000-mile journey to Washington, D.C.

Ogden business members, veterans and schoolchildren participated in a special ceremony Monday to honor what's often referred to as "The People's Tree."

The tree arrived on a double flatbed truck and trailer custom fit with a bladder that is filled with 65 gallons of water daily to feed the tree during its three-week journey. The tree was not removed from the truck but was available for viewing thorough Plexiglas windows.

The tree has two other stops scheduled in Utah — 6-8 p.m. Tuesday in Spanish Fork at City Park, 49 S. Main St.; and St. George on Wednesday.
