Letter: Banks hurt U.S. economy far more than the poor

Pati Sorensen reiterates what is a standard item of her party's litany from at least the 1960s if not from the days of the New Deal: that recipients of government assistance are a threat to society ("Tired of liberals screaming 'racist'; loves Ben Carson," Forum, Nov. 2).

The irony is that these people are so concerned about the relatively trivial impact on the national economy of public assistance and care so little about the scofflaws from the financial sector.

You know, those that caused our recent economic meltdown and continue to concentrate the nation's wealth into fewer and fewer hands. All at the enormous expense of everyone else.
