In his 20 years in law enforcement, Box Elder County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Kevin Potter had never heard of a turkey attack.
That changed Sunday afternoon in Corinne, a community of a few hundred people just northwest of Brigham City. A woman's children and dog were playing in their yard near 3400 W. Arizona St. when a turkey came up and attacked them about 3:25 p.m., Potter said.
No one was hurt, but when a Box Elder County Sheriff's deputy arrived, he could see the bird was still in "an attack posture," Potter said. So the deputy shot and killed the bird.
It turned out to be a domestic turkey owned by someone else in Corinne. The owner came by and retrieved the bird.
Potter was not sure where the owner lived and how far the turkey would have traveled to get there, or the bird's age.
