Salt Lake City police say a South Carolina man's propensity for bailing out on his dinner checks left him in jail, unable to post bail.
The 36-year-old man remained in the Salt Lake County jail on $5,000 bond Friday. He was arrested Tuesday and booked on suspicion of multiple third-degree felony counts of theft of services, possession of another's identity documents, possession of heroin and possession of amphetamine.
In the past two months, police say, the man often accompanied by a date is alleged to have "dined and dashed" at eight restaurants.
His luck ran out on Tuesday after he tried to skip out on paying for a meal at a downtown Olive Garden restaurant. Police located him a short distance away and arrested him.
At least for now, the suspect won't have to worry about paying for his next meals, though the ambiance of the jail cafeteria may leave something to be desired.
