NFL notes: Vikings receiver Simpson arrested on suspicion of DWI

Minneapolis • Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jerome Simpson was released from jail Saturday on $12,000 bond, about seven hours after he was arrested overnight on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a trooper responded to a report of a stalled Dodge Charger in a lane of Interstate Highway 394. As Simpson got out of his car, the trooper said, he had watery eyes and slightly slurred speech. Simpson said he was at a nearby bar, the Pour House, but denied he'd been drinking.

After Simpson took field-sobriety tests, he was arrested at 4:03 a.m. local time. Ninety minutes later, Simpson was booked into jail, where he refused to take a breath test.

The Vikings have the weekend off after beating Washington on Thursday.

Simpson is on his second one-year contract in Minnesota after playing his first three seasons in Cincinnati. There, he spent 15 days in jail for a felony drug conviction tied to a 2½-pound marijuana shipment to his home, where authorities said they found another pound of the drug in September 2011. His sentence included three years' probation. The NFL suspended him for three games last year for a substance-abuse violation.

Simpson leads the Vikings with 491 yards receiving this season, but the 27-year-old has yet to score a touchdown in 21 games with the team.

Dolphins stiff-arm harassment questions

Davie, Fla. • The latest allegations from tackle Jonathan Martin went mostly unanswered Saturday by the Miami Dolphins, weary of fending off questions about the harassment case that has rocked the franchise.

"I'm not going to give you nothing," offensive lineman Nate Garner told dozens of reporters in a genial tone.

"I'm only talking about football," center Mike Pouncey said.

"We have a game on Monday," defensive end Cameron Wake added. "I'm not thinking about anybody that's not in this locker room."

The Dolphins creating all the attention this week aren't with the team. Martin left last week and alleges he was harassed by teammates including guard Richie Incognito, who has been suspended.

That leaves Miami (4-4) short-handed Monday night at Tampa Bay (0-8).

Martin, in counseling for emotional issues, will discuss the case next week with a special investigator hired by the NFL. The second-year pro's allegations include a malicious physical attack by a teammate.
