Madison, Wis. • As they usually do, BYU fans made a good showing at 80,000-seat Camp Randall Stadium on Saturday afternoon although Provo is 1,376 miles away from Madison.

Obviously, many of the fans dressed in blue were from Wisconsin and surrounding states, including Steve Swenson and his family.

"We've been waiting to come to this game ever since it was announced," said Swenson, who lives in northern Iowa and had tickets behind BYU's bench.

BYU associate athletic director for communications Duff Tittle said the school sold its entire allotment of 3,000 tickets through its ticket office. Presumably, many of the fans purchased their seats through Wisconsin as BYU fans were scattered throughout the stadium.

The Madison chapter of the BYU Alumni Association held an indoor tailgate party prior to the game at the Student Union next to the stadium, and officials there believed there would be 5,000 to 7,000 BYU fans at the game.

Watching the "Jump Around"

Since 1993, Wisconsin students have done the "Jump Around" between the third and fourth quarters of games at Camp Randall. The tradition started when members of the UW swimming team played a song by the group House of Pain to rile up students at the quarter break.

BYU players said earlier in the week that they had heard about the tradition, and at least one said he was excited to watch it firsthand.

"It is going to be a very loud environment. We hear about their fourth-quarter jump," said defensive tackle Eathyn Manumaleuna. "It is going to be really loud and crazy. We need to keep our composure and stay focused."

Briefly

BYU coach Bronco Mendenhall and Wisconsin coach Gary Andersen, the former USU coach, enjoyed a lengthy conversation at midfield during pregame warmups. They were joined by Zach Nyborg, director of football operations at UW and a former Utahn and 2011 BYU graduate. … Scouts from the NFL's Tennessee Titans, Oakland Raiders, Kansas City Chiefs and Detroit Lions had seats in the press box for the game.
