Southern Utah runs past Weber State in second half

Ogden • Southern Utah scored 17 straight points in the second half to take control of a close game and roll to a 27-21 Big Sky Conference victory over Weber State on Saturday afternoon at Stewart Stadium.Despite a Weber touchdown with 2.7 seconds remaining, the Thunderbirds improved their record to 7-3 overall and 4-2 in the Big Sky. The Wildcats slipped to 1-9 and 0-6.Weber State opened the scoring with 5:39 left in the first quarter when Austin Chipoletti hit Cam Livingston on a 31-yard touchdown pass.Southern Utah, limited to only eight yards of offense in the first quarter, managed to tie the game with 22 seconds remaining in the half.One play after the Thunderbirds picked up a first down on four-and-one from the Weber State two-yard line, Levi Teo dove in for a touchdown.Sourthern Utah took a 14-7 lead with 9:22 left in the third quarter when, after an interception, Mike Sharp scored from inside the one on a quarterback sneak.The Thunderbirds added to their lead late in the third after recovering a Weber State fumble. Colton Cook's 23-yarder made it 17-7.Midway through the fourth quarter, Southern Utah took a 24-7 lead when quarterback Aaron Cantu came off the bench and fired a 12-yard touchdown pass to Griff McNabb.
