ECHL: Utah Grizzlies score late, defeat Ontario Reign 2-0

West Valley City • Rylan Galiardi and Kris Hogg scored goals in the final 8:59 Saturday night at the Maverik Center, leading the the Utah Grizzlies to a 2-0 victory over Ontario.

Galiardi, signed by Utah this week after playing in Idaho, San Francisco and Gwinnett last season, snapped a scoreless tie at 11:01 of the third period after assists by Channing Boe and Mathieu Aubin.

With 1:41 remaining, Hogg scored his second goal of the season to seal the victory for the Grizzlies. He was assisted by T.J. Battani and Stefan Wang.

Grizzlies' goaltender Aaron Dell stopped 24 shots by Ontario, including 12 in the third period, to record the shutout and improve his record to 1-1 this season.

Utah and Ontario battled through a scoreless first period. The Grizzlies outshot the Reign, 12-7, despite the fact they had to kill three power plays, including over one minute when Ontario enjoyed a 5-on-3 advantage.

The game stayed scoreless through the second period, when Utah fired nine shots at Ontario goaltender Mathias Niederberger without success.

That changed in the final 8:59, when Galiardi and Hogg helped Utah improve its record to 2-4-1.

The Grizzlies continue their five-game home stand Monday night when they conclude this series with Ontario. After the finale with the Reign, Utah plays host to Colorado in a two-game series Oct. 16-18. —
