Honoroso made the step up from little Wyoming Downs to Los Alamitos a successful one.

Honoroso, coming off a win in the Wyoming Downs 870 Challenge in September, returned to the races Saturday night and won the $100,000-added Red Cell Distance Challenge at one of quarter horse racing's marquee tracks.

Honoroso was bred in Utah by Sassy Farms LLC. The gelding is owned by Richard Gardner and RTM Stables and trained by Ryan Hansen.

Sent off at odds of 6-to-1 under jockey Ramon Guice in the Distance Challenge, Honoroso inched away in the final yards to win by a neck over Dashers Midnight. Call Her Hero was a nose farther back in third place. Favored All About Larry finished last in the eight-horse field.

Honoroso won for the 10th time in 27 starts and banked the winner's share of $48,000, bumping his career earnings to almost $90,000.

In his previous start on Sept. 15, Honoroso won the Wyoming Downs 870 Bonus Challenge by 43/4 lengths on a sloppy track as the overwhelming 1-to-5 favorite.
