Letter: Mormons have disproportionate Senate representation

I was stunned to read in The New York Times that there are seven Mormons in the U.S. Senate ("Senate Bill on Bias Against Gays Finds Support in Mormons," Nov. 7). That's 7 percent of the Senate, and Mormons make up only 1.7 percent of the U.S. population. Granted, Mormons don't yet rival the Jews (10 percent of the Senate with 1.4 percent of the population), but that's still some achievement.
So when I hear Mormons and Mormon leaders whine that they're being persecuted and made irrelevant, I just want to say: Shut up! Yes you're a minority, but your voice is being heard loud and clear. Quit acting like you should be the deciders.
