Jazz rally past New Orleans for first win of new season

Gordon Hayward scored 27 points and Enes Kanter added 21 as the Utah Jazz snapped a season-opening eight-game losing streak Wednesday night with a 111-105 win over New Orleans at EnergySolutions Arena.Anthony Davis led the Pelicans, who squandered a 16-point lead in the second half, with 29 points.The Jazz started well against New Orleans, which was playing back-to-back and its third game in four nights.Derrick Favors had six points and four rebounds in the opening 4:02 as the Jazz took a 9-7 lead. But the Pelicans hit their next six shots, including two by Gordon and two by Colorado State product Jason Smith.By the end of the first quarter, Gordon had 10 points, Anthony Davis added eight and New Orleans enjoyed a 29-22 lead.The Pelicans owned a 45-36 lead with five minutes left in the half when Diante Garrett's layup and a basket by Alec Burks cut their lead to five.After a turnover by Favors, however, New Orleans used a 9-1 run to regain momentum.In the third quarter, the Pelicans scored six quick points and built a 61-45 lead.Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin burned a time-out, but it paid dividends. Richard Jefferson scored nine points in a 2 1/2-minute stretch and Utah used a 15-2 run to get back into the game.Still, the Jazz miss their final four shots of the third quarter and their first four shots of the fourth. New Orleans took an 83-75 lead into the final 10 minutes before Utah rallied again.
