We are almost set for another session of "circus in the round" or as some people call it, the Utah Legislature. What mighty issues will they address this year?
Possibly birth control for deer? Will it be allocating more millions to pursue the windmill called the AG's office? Possibly they will do the usual and bury their head in the sand about real issues such as enforcing a ban on texting while driving. At least 12 states have some sort of hands-free law that is much easier to enforce than Utah's "don't do it" law.
Take a ride in a truck and peer down at motorists. I recently counted 17 lawbreakers from North Salt Lake to Sugarhouse. Texting is more dangerous and more prevalent than drunken driving, period!
How about addressing panhandling? Get off I-15 at 1300 South and there can be as many as 10 panhandlers within a two-block radius. All of us avoid eye contact so they won't see us.
Put up toll gates. Charge $1 to get off and allocate the money to people who we can make sure really need it.
