A day after having his eligibility restored by the NCAA, BYU cross-country runner Jared Ward finished fourth overall in the NCAA Mountain Region Championships on Friday in Ogden, leading the Cougars to a fourth-place finish in the team standings.

Ward ran the 10K course at Riverdale Golf Course in 29 minutes, 45.6 seconds. He had been suspended for running in a low-key race before beginning his BYU career.

Texas Tech's Kennedy Kithuka won in 29:23.6.

Northern Arizona (61 points) topped Colorado (69) for the team title.

The Cougars hope for an at-large bid to run in the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind., on Nov. 23.

Weber State's Summer Harper (20:45.5) finished eighth in the women's 6K race, while BYU's Andrea Nelson Harrison (20:47.1) placed ninth, and Utah's Rebekah Winterton (20:49.3) was 10th.

New Mexico's Sammy Silva won in 20:29.3, followed by Colorado's Shayla Kipp (20:31.0), from Salt Lake City's Skyline High School.

BYU finished third as a team, Weber State was fourth and Utah eighth. Colorado won the women's team title.

Women's volleyball

Westminster 3, Carroll 0 • In Great Falls, Mont., Alexis Aalona had 16 kills as the Griffins won the Frontier Conference tournament quarterfinal, 26-24, 28-26, 25-22.

Wrestling

Central Michigan 27, Utah Valley 9 • In Mount Pleasant, Mich., the Wolverines won just two of 10 matches in their first dual meet of the season. UVU's Ethan Smith won a 7-6 decision over Craig Killiher at 184 pounds, and Adam Fager beat Adam Robinson on a fall in their 285-pound match.
