I haven't been downtown to shop for probably five months. There's a reason I rarely go downtown: the parking.
I decided to drive to Art Access (500 W. 230 South) to pick up a few Christmas gifts and support "buying local." I arrived around 1:30 on a Friday and there was very little traffic. I was in Art Access for 30-40 minutes and returned to find a $25 parking ticket from Salt Lake Corp.
I was confused as to why I would even have a ticket. The reason for my ticket: "parking more than 12 inches from the curb." I happened to have a ruler in my car, so I measured how from the curb I parked. Oh noooo ... 13 inches.
I was not blocking the travel lane in any way, and there was no one on the street.
I understand that rules are rules. But if the city wants people to come downtown and buy local, our leaders need to determine if 1 inch is worth a letter to the editor and deterring people from shopping downtown.
