Salt Lake City police say a car-stealing couple's drive in their new ride was short-lived and ended with both of them behind bars.

The car was reported stolen early Sunday, but was spotted a few hours later by friends of the owner. They began to follow the vehicle and called 911 about 12:30 p.m. Sunday.

Salt Lake City officers responded, located the stolen car near 1300 West and 600 North, pulled it over and arrested a 22-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man.

The woman was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of stolen property. Her male companion was booked on suspicion of possession of stolen property and obstruction of justice.
