Excessive speed on rain-slickened streets were factors in a fatal traffic accident in Syracuse last weekend, police say.

Syracuse police Officer Erin Behm said Tuesday that Taylor Johnston, 20, of Syracuse, was attempting to pass another car about 3:30 p.m. Saturday near 1700 S. 3400 West. His Dodge Neon slid into oncoming traffic and went out of control, crashing into a telephone pole.

Johnston was ejected from the car and died at the scene.
