Letter: College educators not liberal, just thoughtful

In the Tribune's Nov. 17 Public Forum, Ben Bridges asked "How will you ever get balance in colleges when they only hire liberals?" ("Liberal professors, TV cause nation's problems.")

As someone who has long admired college level educators such as my parents, I believe he asked the wrong question. The better question to ask would be: Why is it that so many educated people who have been exposed to the world of new ideas advocate guarantees of individual rights and liberties, protecting the environment, supporting health care and so many other ideas that are important to the betterment of all mankind?
