Kreis, Rimando, Borchers finalists for MLS awards

Major League Soccer announed its 2013 season award finalists Wednesday, and some love has been shown to Real Salt Lake.

Head coach Jason Kreis, goalkeeper Nick Rimando and defender Nat Borchers are three finalists for 2013 MLS awawrds. Kreis is a finalist for the MLS Coach of the Year, along with New York's Mike Petke and Portland's Caleb Porter. RSL went 16-10-8 in the 2013 regular season, earning the No. 2 seed and finishing with the second-most regular-season point total — 56 — in franchise history. Kreis has led the club to the brink of its second MLS Cup final in five seasons following RSL's 4-2 win over Portland in the first leg of the Western Conference final at Rio Tinto Stadium on Nov. 10. The Coach of the Year award will be announced on Dec. 2.

Rimando is a finalist for the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year award along with Portland's Donovan Ricketts and Sporting Kansas Cit's Jimmy Nielsen. The league's top goalkeeper will be announced on Dec. 4.

Borchers is a finalist for the Indivdual Fair Play Award, an honor bestowed by MLS based on objective criteria such as fouls committed, cards received, games and minutes played, as well as subjective evaluation of sportsmanlike behavior. The RSL center back is a finalist along with Portland's Darlington Nagbe and Chicago's Jalil Anibaba. The winner of the award will be announced on Monday, Nov. 25.

The three MLS league MVP finalists are: L.A.'s Robbie Keane, Montreal's Marco Di Vaio and Chicago's Mike Magee. For the full list award finalists, visit the MLS website here.
