It was encouraging to note that 110 of Utah's important faith community leaders signed the full page ad (Sunday. Nov. 17, and Wednesday, Nov. 20) in support of Medicaid expansion as that would provide medical coverage to many vulnerable Utahns.
It was also disturbing to note that not one of the signatories was a leader of Utah's dominant religion. LDS leaders might excuse this on the grounds that the church does not take positions on controversial issues, but that is not true.
Virtually every LDS General Conference includes vocal diatribes aimed at preventing an important minority gay Utahns from enjoying the rights that the rest of us can take for granted.
