Weber State football: Wildcats to cap difficult season with winnable game

Ogden • After 10 straight losses, Weber State closes a difficult season Saturday after against Idaho State, which it has beaten 10 straight times.

On paper, the Bengals seem to be the perfect opponent for the struggling Wildcats. They have lost 44 straight road games, going back to 2006, and they haven't won at Stewart Stadium since 1984.

Despite Weber State's domination in the series, however, coach Jody Sears is adamant the Wildcats have to play well to end their unhappy season on a positive note.

According to Sears, coach Mike Kramer has done "a tremendous job" with the Bengals, who are 3-8 overall this season and 1-6 in the Big Sky Conference.

"They are not the same team they were last year or the year before," Sears said. "If we don't take care of our turnovers ... and make tackles instead of miss tackles, we're going to be in for trouble."

Since taking over when John L. Smith abruptly resigned in 2012 without ever coaching a game, Weber State has gone 3-19 under Sears.

"It's all about the process," he said. "We're building a program that will be able to sustain itself throughout time and have consistent success. ... You have to build from the ground up. You have to grit your teeth, go through it and stay true to the plan and the mission." —
