Provo • BYU's nationally prominent men's volleyball program signed five recruits, coach Chris McGown announced Thursday.
Four of the five signees are from California and one is from Pennsylvania. The group includes two outside hitters, a setter, a libero and a middle blocker.
One of the outside hitters is Zach Eschenberg, a 6-foot-6 athlete from Newbury Park High School in Newbury Park, Calif. He was a 2012 first team all-Marmonte selection.
The other outside hitter is Brenden Sander, brother of current Cougar star Taylor Sander and a 6-5 star at Huntington Beach High in Huntington Beach, Calif. Sander was the 2012 and 2013 VolleyballNow Player of the year in his age division.
The setter is 6-1 Chandler Gibb of Edison High in Huntington Beach, Calif. Gibb made the 2013 Junior National 17s All-Tournament team.
The middle blocker is Christian Rupert, a 6-7 senior at Central Bucks High School West in Chalfont, Pa. He made the Pennsylvania all-state team in 2012-13.
The libero is Erik Sikes, a 6-1 senior at Rancho Santa Margarita Catholic High in Coto de Caza, Calif. Sikes was the MVP of his high school team and named to the Trinity League first team twice.
