Pornhub one of the most successful smut peddlers in the history of smut peddling has run the numbers to find out when people are most likely to watch a little erotica.
In an interactive map posted Friday, the website shows how different parts of the world react to holidays, TV shows and world events. (Note: the link in that sentence is completely SFW (for the uninitiated in web lingo: Safe for Work). But be careful; if you start clicking around too much you may find yourself somewhere NSFW (Not Safe For Work).)
So what did Pornhub discover? For one thing, events have a huge impact on porn consumption. During the Miami Heat's win over Oklahoma City in 2012, porn viewing dropped by a surprising 16 percent in the U.S. Oddly, however, porn viewing increased in the U.S. during the London Olympics opening ceremonies, though it dropped by a huge 27 percent in the U.K. at that same time.
The map includes a wealth of other data on porn usage during Obama's reelection, the iPad release, the Royal Wedding and even the Bachelorette Finale, when it dropped by a surprising 5 percent. The entire world is represented too, so if you're curious about porn usage on Rosh Hashanah in Israel, now you can find out.
Speaking of which, holidays also have a major impact on porn; everybody pretty much puts away the porn on Christmas, though Earth Day had no impact and Black Friday actually increased consumption by 7 percent.
As I think Pornhub rightly points out, this is interesting, even useful, data regardless of whether you're a critic or a connoisseur of nudie pics. This data also comes just days after Pornhub offered to help the Obama administration fix the Obamacare website. So far as I know, the president has not taken them up on that offer.
