Letter: GOP, don't threaten your constituents

Republican leadership in the House and Senate have responded to the invoking of the nuclear option with threats. Sens. John McCain and Mitch McConnell have both stated that there will be a heavy price to pay for the maneuver. They intend to punish the Democrats ("Democrats vote to curb filibusters on appointees," Tribune, Nov. 20).

What they need to do is get their respective heads on straight. If they once again threaten to send us over the fiscal cliff, ravage the economy and block all of Congress' ability to act in any manner, it is not the Dems who will be hurt, it is the country, the economy, and the working people of America.

Americans want to see some statesmanship. Don't hurt us again. If you want some respect, show us that you care about the people that you are elected to serve.
