Pleasant View police confirmed Monday that a man struck by a car near a dark intersection over the weekend had succumbed to his injuries.

Police Chief D. Scott Jackson said the identity of the victim, whom doctors pronounced dead early Sunday, was still being withheld.

"The case is still under investigation and [we are] waiting for all of the victim's family to be notified before releasing identity," Jackson said. "The initial investigation and witness statements are pointing toward no charges being filed against the driver."

Police suspect the man was intoxicated when he attempted to cross 2700 North near 600 West and was hit by a westbound vehicle late Saturday night.

The victim reportedly had been barely missed by other cars on the road before being hit "in dark conditions without using a crosswalk at a nearby traffic light-controlled intersection," Jackson said.
