Today is a busy day at The Salt Lake Tribune.

Our staff essentially is producing two print editions to accommodate early deadlines that will make it possible to have a first edition of the Thanksgiving paper in racks available for single-copy purchases earlier than usual.

We know advertisements for Black Friday (and Thanksgiving evening) shopping deals are a main attraction in Thursday's paper.

MediaOne of Utah, the company that sells print advertising and distributes The Tribune and the Deseret News print editions, was responding to reader demand in 2011 when it began making a first edition of the Thanksgiving newspapers available early. Single-copy sales of the newspapers on the day before Thanksgiving have been brisk enough to convince it to continue the practice.

In our newsroom, producing the early edition means our first production deadline for Thursday's newspaper is noon Wednesday (as opposed to 11:20 p.m.) We'll produce a second edition by 10:15 p.m. to include sports and other breaking news, plus stock tables, weather and a few other items.

That later paper is what print subscribers will receive at home Thursday morning.

It may be missing a few things you're used to seeing, particularly in Sports, due to the early deadline.

All the latest news, including late scores and sports stories will be available online at sltrib.com.
