Sports briefs: N. Illinois QB runs for 321 yards in win

COLLEGE FOOTBALL • Jordan Lynch broke his single-game rushing record for quarterbacks with 321 yards and No. 18 Northern Illinois completed its first unbeaten regular season in 50 years with a 33-14 victory over Western Michigan on Tuesday night in DeKalb, Ill.

Lynch carried the ball 27 times in topping his previous record of 316 yards, set on Oct. 19 against Central Michigan. The Huskies (12-0, 8-0 Mid-American) shook off brisk winds and occasional light snowfall as they extended the nation's longest active home winning streak to 26 games.

Pacquiao's bank accounts frozen

BOXING • Manny Pacquiao's bank accounts in the Philippines have been frozen, stopping him from fulfilling his promise to help typhoon victims in his homeland, according to his promoter, Bob Arum.

After beating Brandon Rios by unanimous decision in Macao, China, on Saturday night, Pacquiao vowed to help with his country's recovery from the Nov. 7 disaster.

The Associated Press in Manila reported that Pacquiao, a congressman in the country, hasn't proved to the country's Bureau of Internal Revenue that he paid taxes in 2008-09 and that unless it is clarified, he owes $50 million (2.2 billion pesos) in back taxes as of July. Pacquiao said he paid taxes in the United States and that a treaty prevents double taxation.

New England defender lauded

soccer • New England's Jose Goncalves has been voted Major League Soccer's Defender of the Year. The 28-year-old Portuguese central defender played every minute of the Revolution's 34 league games and scored a pair of goals.

Goncalves received the most media and player votes, the league said Tuesday. Kansas City's Matt Besler was second, and the L.A. Galaxy's Omar Gonzalez third.
