A Tremonton man died when his car rolled into the Logan River on Tuesday afternoon.

Gordon Larson, 90, was driving his Buick LeSabre down Logan Canyon about 4:20 p.m. when he lost control of the car near Temple Fork Road, about 15 miles east of Logan, said Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Lee Perry. The car rolled into the river, where it landed upside-down.

Several passers-by jumped into the river and pushed the car onto its tires, but Larson already had died, Perry said. Investigators do not know whether Larson died because of the impact of the crash or because of the water, Perry said.

Investigators do not know why Larson drove off the road but suspect slick roads may have been a factor. Less than an hour earlier, a Honda Accord crashed in the same location after hitting a slick spot on Logan Canyon Road, Perry said. The Honda rolled off the road and struck a tree; the two occupants suffered minor injuries and were taken to a hospital.
