Operation Cover Up seeks warm clothing for homeless, kids, elderly

Firefighters statewide want your help in making sure the homeless, the elderly and poor children have warm clothing for the winter season.

Salt Lake City Fire Department spokesman Jasen Asay said Monday that "Operation Cover Up," first launched 22 years ago by SLCFD Battalion Chief Tom Roberson, once more is encouraging the public to donate blankets, coats, hats and gloves at any local fire station.

From those collection points, firefighters will make sure the items get to the organizations best able to distribute them to the needy: the Road Home, Utah Division of Aging and Adult Services, Shriners Hospitals for Children, the Christmas Box House and St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

Operation Cover Up will run throughout December. In addition to Salt Lake City, fire stations statewide, from Logan to Payson and Tooele to Park City, are participating in the campaign.
