A man was critically injured Sunday night after he was hit by a TRAX train.

About 7:56 p.m., Salt Lake City emergency responders were called out to the collision near 300 W. 2100 South. Paramedics found a man in his late 20s who had been hit by the train and took him to the hospital in critical condition, said Salt Lake City Fire spokesman Jasen Asay.

The incident appears to have been a suicide attempt, based on what the man told emergency responders, said police Lt. Carl Merino.

The Salt Lake Tribune will update this story as more information is available.
