PayPal, the online payment service which handles one-fifth of global ecommerce transactions, said it saw a 108.9% increase in global payment volume from mobile devices during this year's Cyber Monday compared to Cyber Monday last year.
Cyber Monday is the first Monday after Thanksgiving and is the day most holiday sales are held by online retailers. PayPal, which is owned by eBay, has 137 million active accounts in 193 markets and 26 currencies around the world. It processes nearly 8 million payments each day.
"The technology consumers have in their hands can help retailers drive sales and engage consumers," Stacy General, Customer Experience Advocate for PayPal, said in a statement Tuesday.
